A
relatively simple registry cleaner,
Error Fix may at first
glance seem some what basic in terms of
computer software. Basic though doesn’t
necessarily mean that Error Fix is a bad
piece of software, and as long as it does
what it is designed for, then simple may
in fact be an advantage. That being said
we did have to find out whether Error Fix
did indeed do everything that it claimed
to be able to do.
Our
Overall Score – 75%
The Details of Error Fix
• Software Designer
– Error Fix is a stand alone
product and although popular it is not backed
up with the knowledge that the software
developers have produced other effective
products as well..
•
Compatibility
–Error Fix has been designed
and developed to ensure that it will work
on Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP and
Vista.
•
Features and Functions
– Error Fix lives up its initial
basic image in the features that are offered
with the product, and whilst some may say you
buy a registry cleaner to clean the registry,
the best registry cleaners offer additional
features that can help compact and organize a
registry and computer as well.
•
Back-up – An
essential feature from any
reputable registry cleaner,
Error Fix offers up the
required back-up and undo
feature that allows for the
registry to be totally backed
up, so that it can be restored
in the unlikely event of any
problems when it is being
repaired.
• Custom
Scan – Error Fix also
offers the option of customizing
the scan, and although most people
will never use the feature, the
more experienced computer users can
customize to ensure a faster
scan. |
The Test Results
We downloaded Error Fix direct
from the company’s website, purchasing the full
version, rather than the free scan tool.
Installation was quick and easy, and in next to
no time we were using Error Fix to scan through
our Windows registry.
We were pleased to see that the speed of the
scan was in line with the claims made by the
software designers, and our test machine was
scanned in about two minutes. We were initially
worried that the speed may have meant that
Error Fix was not as thorough as it should be,
but the identified errors were fairly
comprehensive and all major errors were found.
Overall we were satisfied with the results of
Error Fix and our machine was certainly faster
and comparable to the speed of the machine when
we first purchased
it.
Additional
Observations
Error Fix is unfortunately let
down by the features that have been included in
the program, and although the essential back up
and restore is present there is little else to
help with the performance of the Windows
registry. The basic nature of the software does
make it relatively user friendly we are
convinced that most users would accept a bit
more complexity for a few more features.
Overall Impressions
A basic registry cleaner, but still a fairly
good piece of software, Error
Fix is one of the top twenty registry
cleaners currently available. The scan and
repair process are as good as we would expect
from a modern registry cleaner, and although
not as thorough as the likes of RegCure
from ParetoLogic does an adequate job in
improving the performance of a Windows
computer. The overall score for Error Fix
though is let down by the lack of features
included in the software, and there is little
to the software other than the expected
identify and repair
process.
