When
it comes to registry cleaners, the name
of Error Nuker is
probably one of the most recognizable of
products; it is a registry cleaner that
has achieved a large market share in
recent years, and is one that gains a lot
of accolades each year. Error Nuker is
continually updated, and is designed to
work on all Windows operating systems,
and was an obvious choice for us to
install on one of test machines.

The Details of Error Nuker
• Software Designer
– The company behind Error Nuker
is TrekBlue, a long established software
company that has produced many other popular
software tools, including Popup Nuker, Spam
Nuker and Spyware Nuker.
•
Compatibility
–Error Nuker has been
created and developed to ensure that it
will work on Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP, XP
Pro and Vista.
•
Features and Functions
– It is often a difficult balance
to achieve when it comes to additional features
needed within a registry cleaner, some programs
struggle by offering nothing on top of the
basic cleaner, whilst others offer too many
features that add no real value, Error Nuker is
certainly not packed with features, but does
include the
essentials.
•
Back-up and Undo
– The ability to
backup a registry is the bare
minimum that you would want
from a registry cleaner, and is
something that Error Nuker does
offer. The back-up and undo
feature is simple to use and
does add a great deal of
comfort when undertaking a
repair of the Windows
Registry.
•
Custom Scan –
Error Nuker offers up the option to
scan through the registry looking
for different types of errors,
including font and hared DLL
errors, this is perhaps more useful
to more advanced users, and most
people will normal just scan for
everything.
•
Automatic and Manual Repair
– Error Nuker offers the
user the choice of whether to let
the program undertake the repair,
or to undertake the repair of the
registry yourself. The manual
option does allow you to ignore
types of errors if desired although
again this is an option for more
experienced users.
•
Scheduler
– Error Nuker can be
scheduled to run at set points and
even every time that the computer
is started up. The period of time
between scans should though be
around once a week, although it is
dependant on how much use the
machine is put
to. |
The Test Results
Error Nuker is another
internet based registry cleaner that can be
downloaded directly from the TrekBlue website
either as a free tool that will scan your
Windows registry or as a paid program that
offers all of the program’s capabilities.
Having installed our copy of the program we
then had it undertake a scan of our Windows
registry. The scan itself was perhaps not as
quick as other cleaners, but it did seem that
the scan was extensive. The scan went through
the registry, hard drive, as well as the
section of the machine dealing with system
attributes. It is this last area that is
perhaps the most impressive as it is an area
that is often brushed over by inferior registry
cleaners.
The result of the scan of our machine clearer
identified the errors we expected it to find,
and the repair process was quick and easy. Once
we had restarted our test machine we were
impressed with the running speed that it now
operated
at.
Additional Observations
The features on offer from Error
Nuker are fairly basic but are necessary for
the safe use of a registry cleaner. It is vital
that there is an option to back up the registry
before undertaking any sort of work on it, and
it is an option that Error Nuker does do well.
We would have liked to see some more tools
specifically designed to help with the
structuring and optimization of the registry
but all in all Error Nuker is a good registry
cleaner without being spectacular.
Overall Impressions
Having given Error Nuker a
thorough test we were both surprised at the
accolades that it receives, but equally we can
understand why it does. There is nothing
outstanding about Error Nuker, but it does
exactly what you would want from a registry
cleaner. The scan and repair are good and
identify most errors in most areas of a
computer, but there are better registry
cleaners that offer more and we would still
recommend RegCure from ParetoLogic as a better
choice for those looking to purchase a registry
cleaner.
