Many
people looking for their first registry
cleaner will not want a piece of software
packed with features and possible
complicated extras, and that is the
market that RegClean has been
specifically designed to cash in on.
RegClean is well known
as being one of the more elementary
registry cleaners available and yet it
remains popular in the market.

Overall Score – 70%
The Details of RegClean
• Software Designer
– RegClean is a piece of software
designed and distributed by 2Squared Software,
a company with a good reputation amongst
software development firms.
•
Compatibility
–RegClean is certified to
work on computers running Windows 98, ME,
2000, XP, XP Pro and Vista.
•
Features and Functions
– Additional features are not
always necessarily a vital element of a
registry cleaner, and we have tested some tools
where the additional features add no value to
the original product. Some cleaners though do
manage to add to their product, and although
RegClean is not the best when it comes to its
features it does include some useful ones.
•
Comprehensive Backup
– All registry
cleaners should have a feature
that ensures the Windows
registry is comprehensively
backed up prior to any repair
work being undertaken. RegClean
does include a backup facility
and adds a degree of comfort to
its usage
• Registry
Compression – Registry
compression is something that a lot
of inferior registry cleaners
overlook, and it is something that
can help the overall speed of a
computer. By reducing the size of
the registry it will take less time
for the operating system to look
through it for required
information. RegClean will compress
the registry after it has been
repaired.
•
Duplicate File
Deletion - Another
important step in reducing the size
of the Windows registry is to
remove unwanted files, and often
the most prevalent of these are
duplicate files, and these will be
deleted by RegClean.
•
Automated
Scheduler – RegClean is
another registry cleaner that can
be scheduled to run whenever the
user requires it. The period of
time between scans is normally once
a week, but this will change
depending on how much use is made
of the
computer. |
The Test Results
We downloaded our copy of RegClean directly
from the company’s website, and although we
paid for the full version, it is possible to
download a free scan device from the same site.
The free scan will identify errors within the
registry, although you will not be able to
repair them without installing the full
version. The initial scan was quick and seemed
fairly through and the results showed that the
major errors had been identified although we
did quickly notice that minor errors had been
missed. This would have had an impact on the
overall speed of our computer, and although it
was certainly faster after the restart of our
machine, we would have had an ever quicker
computer if all of the errors had been dealt
with. In all though, RegClean is a good
registry cleaner, scanning quickly and
identifying most errors.
Additional Observations
Although in general
RegClean is a good registry
cleaner, the features included are not
outstanding, at the same time though we did
like the fact that the developers had included
a compression tool. Some more experienced
computer users may consider that RegClean is on
the basic level, but this does make it very
simple to use.
Overall Impressions
Our tests have shown that
RegClean is a good registry
cleaner and although basic in nature does clean
the registry to a good level. We would not say
that it is the most thorough of registry
cleaners or the quickest, and falls short of
the likes of RegCure from ParetoLogic, but for
those looking for a basic registry cleaner then
RegClean does do the
job.
