Reg
Sweep is possibly one of the
most talked about registry cleaners, and
you will often find big claims made about
it. Indeed you will often see Reg Sweep
publicized by the claim that it can
undertake “a complete system scan in 2
minutes or less”. It is these sorts
of claims that will always draw our
attention, and we feel that it is our
duty to find out whether these statements
can be justified.

The Details of Reg Sweep
• Software Designer
– Reg Sweep is available from
download from www.regsweep.com,
and as such is a stand alone product, with the
designers of the registry cleaner not being
known for any other software product.
•
Compatibility
–The designers of Reg Sweep
have developed their software to ensure
that it is capable of working on Windows
98, ME, 2000, XP and Vista running
computers.
•
Features and Functions
– Reg Sweep is one of the more
basic registry cleaners available and as a
result it cannot be said that there is an
overwhelming choice of additional
features.
| •
Back-up and Restore
– Perhaps the most
basic of any feature for a
registry cleaner, is the
essential safety feature of a
back up and restore point. Reg
Sweep does ensure that a copy
of the registry is made prior
to any repair being undertaken
in case the repair process
causes problems with the
computer. |
The Test Results
Having installed Reg Sweep
onto our test computer we quickly had the
registry cleaner scan through our registry. We
were initially amazed by the fact that the scan
was completed in two minutes, just as the
claims state. We were though still sceptical,
and quickly had some doubts about just how
thorough the scan had been in order to achieve
that scan time. Looking at the results of the
scan it became apparent that the major errors
had been found and identified, but we were sure
that it had missed some of the more minor
errors that we knew our registry was plagued
with. We did though allow Reg Sweep to fix the
identified errors, and following the restart of
our computer we did certainly notice a much
quicker response when it came to
commands.
Additional Observations
Reg Sweep is almost completely
devoid of additional features but being a basic
registry cleaner is not necessary a bad thing
as long as it does what it is designed for.
Saying that though we were a bit surprised that
for a market leading registry tool there was
not more emphasis put on the optimization of
the registry. We did though think that it was a
nice touch to find that the repair process
worked on a permission basis, which sees a user
confirm the action needed for identified
errors. This feature certainly puts the repair
of the registry in the hands of the user, and
little can go wrong as there is a back-up of
the registry made before the repair occurs.
Overall Impressions
We would have to say that Reg
Sweep is one of the simplest registry
cleaners available on the market, and simply
does what you want from a registry tool. It is
though one of the most basic of tools available
at the same time, and perhaps is not the most
thorough when it comes to scanning deep into
the Windows registry, for thoroughness RegCure
from ParetoLogic would be a better choice. Reg
Sweep though does work and will have a profound
impact on the speed and efficiency of any
computer
