Registry
Genius is a registry cleaner
that is gaining popularity amongst those
seeking to make use of a good registry
tool. It is a popularity that has seen
more and more people download the
software to ensure that their computer
works as it should. Being popular though
doesn’t necessarily equate to the
software being any good, and so we
decided that as an increasing number of
people were using it, that we should give
Registry Genius a thorough test.
Our
Overall Score – 80%
The Details of Registry Genius
• Software Designer
– Registry Genius is once again
another piece of registry cleaning software
which stands alone, as such no information is
available about the software developers, and
although not a detrimental factor, we do tend
to like to know about the designers of software
installed on our computers.
•
Compatibility
–Designed to work on Windows
95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP and Vista,
Registry Genius.
•
Features and Functions
– Registry Genius is a registry
cleaner that has a number of additional
features built into it. Numbers of features are
not always a clear guide about the usefulness
of those features, but we did like the fact
that many were directly linked to the
efficiency of the Windows registry.
•
Back-up and
Undo – An essential
feature, Registry Genius has
ensured that its software comes
complete with a registry backup
feature, ensuring that a copy
of the registry is made before
any repair or amendments are
made on it.
• Custom
Scan – Once Registry
Genius is installed it is quite an
easy matter to allow the software
to automatically scan through the
Windows registry, at the same time
though there is a feature that
allows users to customize their
scan looking for specific errors in
specific areas of the registry.
More useful for advanced computer
users it can be helpful in some
circumstances.
•
Automatic and
Manual Repair – Another
automatic or custom option is when
it comes to the repair process.
Registry Genius allows users to
choose whether to automatically
resolve all errors, or to manually
repair, where the user looks at the
results and chooses whether to
repair or ignore. Again can be
useful in some circumstances,
although it is for more advanced
computer users.
•
Scheduler
– Registry Genius has also
got a scheduler that will
automatically run the software at
set periods of time. We would
recommend that a scan should be run
every fortnight, and an automatic
scheduler does remove the
possibility of forgetting about the
registry. |
The Test Results
We downloaded our copy of Registry
Genius directly from the company’s
website, and paid for the full product. It is
possible to obtain a free scan tool that will
allow you to see the errors present in the
Windows registry but you will not be able to do
anything about it without the full version.
Installation of the software though was both
quick and easy, and it was just as easy to get
Registry Genius to scan through our registry on
our test machine. We were satisfied with the
speed and thoroughness of the scan, and there
were an impressive number of errors found.
Looking deeper into the results we did notice
that a couple of minor errors which we knew
existed, had been missed but was nothing too
major. As a result once we had restarted out
machine we found that we had a machine that now
runs almost as quick as the day that we brought
it.
Additional Observations
The features that are included on
Registry Genius were more numerous than on some
cleaners, and in most cases did add what we
considered value to the software. At the same
time though we were disappointed that there had
not been more emphasis put on compression and
optimization of the registry within those
features.
Overall Impressions
It was fairly obvious as to why the popularity
of Registry Genius has been increasing in the
last few months. The results of our own tests
showed that the repair process is good,
although not perfect. We would rate Registry
Genius as one of the better registry cleaners
available, and although we would recommend the
likes of RegCure from ParetoLogic higher,
Registry Genius is still a good
cleaner.
